Tools Against Oblivion: 3D Visualization of Sunken Landscapes and Cultural Heritages Applied to a Dam Reservoir in the Gorges de la Loire (France)

Around the world, thousands of reservoir dams have flooded valleys and become concrete symbols Anthropocene. These landscapes, as well material or immaterial cultural heritages, were thus became invisible, even though they remain in memories local populations. Today, alternative technologies can enable inhabitants to reappropriate these lost heritages and, a way, make them visible again. 3D digital tools effectively recreate representations landscapes restore visibility underwater heritage sites. In this study, we propose geographic information system methodology combined with geovisualization sunken demonstrate results using valley Gorges de la Loire France an example. We show how developing historical database provide “backup copy” sites, enabling populations safeguard features their memory following flooding.
